Uniti Med Becomes a Certified Great Place to Work for 2023

Uniti Med employees celebrating Great Place to Work certification.

Uniti Med is proud to announce we have received certification as a Great Place To Work for 2023. The Great Places to Work Certification recognizes employers who create an outstanding employee experience. The certification is based on employees taking a survey and questionnaire about the workforce. The results then identify companies that have good company culture and help future employees identify companies they want to work for.

“We are thrilled to receive the Great Place to Work-Certified designation, as we are intensely committed to providing our employees an inclusive, diverse, and highly engaging environment” said COO Chris Sund. “The Great Place to Work designation underscores how important company culture is to overall employee satisfaction and we’re proud to be recognized for our focused effort to create an outstanding employee experience. Our people are the core of Uniti Med’s culture, and we’re thrilled to see their passion and dedication to making Uniti Med a great place to work celebrated. We owe our continued success and growth to our talented and passionate employees. In my career, I’ve never met so many impressive, passionate, and dedicated employees. It’s our collective priority to continue to build a positive, supportive work environment that enables all our Uniti Med employees to perform at their highest potential.”

97% of employees surveyed said that Uniti Med was a great place to work, compared to the average of 57% at a typical U.S. based company. 100% of survey participants said they felt welcomed when they joined Uniti Med and 99% believer that management shows appreciation for great work and extra efforts. We are proud of the efforts we put into our employees and really do lead the company with heart.

“Company culture gets defined as many things but for us, the focus will always be our people.” Micaela Zimmer, Director of Culture explained. “We are committed to providing an atmosphere for employees to grow, feel appreciated, and make a positive difference in the world and the communities around them. Making people feel welcomed when they start at Uniti Med is such a simple concept but one we take to heart. We give a lot of time to elevating our culture at Uniti Med and it was exciting to see the survey results reflect that.”

What healthcare specialties have travel jobs open?

Healthcare specialties

Have you thought about becoming a traveler but aren’t sure if your current healthcare modality has a lot of opportunities for traveling? Read more to see all the modalities that Uniti Med offers 13-week contracts in and get started planning your travel adventure.

Hospital Nursing:

As we all know, when Covid first broke out, the entire world transformed.  Millions fell ill, being rushed to hospitals and quarantined for weeks, sometimes months! Standing through it all was the nurses.  Nurses are often needed and have several options when becoming a travel nurse. Even better, there are so many options for specialization one can pursue as a nurse.  For example, if you as a nurse love working with children, you can specialize in Pediatrics.  Intrigued by the human mind?  Specialize in Psych or Behavioral Health.  There are numerous paths you can take in a nursing career, and having the ability to travel is an extra bonus!

Sterile Processors and Surgical Tech also play a vital role in hospitals.  Sterile Processors have a very meticulous job and are responsible for keeping labs, equipment, and supplies sanitary to prevent the risk of contamination. Surgical technicians are responsible for assisting with surgical procedures in an operating room.  They often monitor a patient’s vital signs throughout a surgery and assist the crew by handing them tools/equipment needed.

There are all sorts of hospital nursing careers!  Take a look below to check out all of the specialties that Uniti Med is currently staffing:

Long Term Care:

Long-Term Caregivers like Certified Nursing Aides (CNAs) and Certified Medication Assistants (CMA) help with their patients daily needs, monitoring their health, and ensuring they are as comfortable as can be.  They see the patient’s improvements and setbacks.  They develop great relationships with the patients they care for.  Other Long-Term Caregivers, such as Directors of Nursing and Administrators, play a very important role in the healthcare domain.  Developing training programs and operations, budgeting, monitoring expenses, and overseeing shift changes are just a few out of the dozens of responsibilities they take on in order for the nursing department to succeed.

Home Health

Home Healthcare Workers’ responsibilities are pretty similar to those as LPNs, CNAs, and RNs in facilities only they provide care at the patient’s homes.  Some work with patients on a long-term, full-time basis, while others can have multiple patients each day.  They coordinate a plan with the patient, their family, and their physician in order to establish the treatment needed to ensure they receive the best care.  These tending professionals give patients the comfort of being able to heal in their own home, and not having to worry about staying in a hospital.

Therapy

Yes, there are traveling opportunities for Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech Pathologists, too!  Physical and Occupational Therapists as well as Assistants help patients with injuries, prepare for pre-op procedures, help post-op patients regain their range of motion, and overall help improve their everyday life.  Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs), on the other hand, are responsible for helping people communicate properly.  They work with those who experience voice disorders, are unable to speak or understand language, and even those who have difficulty swallowing.  Not only do they help with communication, but they also play a big part in helping monitor and diagnose those with autism.  All these therapists may come in different forms, but their end goal is all the same; to help people improve their quality of life.

Interested in a travel therapy path?  Look what’s out available at Uniti Med:

  • Physical Therapist (PT)
  • Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
  • Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA)
  • Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)

Radiology

The Radiology field, in some ways, is like being an investigator.  A big part of the job is to look for clues, describe the results, and determine the findings (diagnosis).   They can help verify if a patient is internally injured, has cancer, is pregnant, or has other types of health conditions.  Their job is very crucial in the healthcare sphere, and they can help determine past, present, and even future conditions.

Radiation Therapists and Nuclear Medicine Techs use medicine and technology to eliminate or damage cancer cells and tumors.  Basically, they are the Terminators of cancer.  Not only is their job to destroy any existing cancerous cells, but to prevent them from spreading as well.

Take a look at what traveling Radiology positions are offered at Unit Med:

  • CT Tech
  • MRI Tech
  • Rad Tech
  • Nuclear Medicine Tech
  • Mammography Tech
  • Dosimetrist
  • Radiation Therapist
  • Ultrasound Gen/Echo/Vascular
  • Interventional Radiology Tech

Laboratory

These “behind-the-scenes” professionals are relatively similar to the radiology crew where their job is to find any evidence of abnormalities in tests.  When the Phlebotomist collects your blood sample and takes it back to the lab, a Medical Technologist, Lab Assistant, Cytotechnologist or other type of lab professional looks to detect any possible diseases.  These findings assist doctors in providing a diagnosis or ruling out any existing conditions.

  • Pathologist Assistant
  • Lab Assistant
  • Lab Director/Manager
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Cardiopulmonary

With heart disease being the leading cause of death for both men and women, careers in Cardiopulmonary are needed now more than ever.  Healthcare professionals such as EKG Technicians administer tests to determine the cardiovascular health of patients and can help discover any irregularities within the heart that could lead to an attack or disease.  Respiratory Therapists and Care Practitioners specialize in helping those having trouble breathing.  They can work with those suffering with asthma, undeveloped lungs, bronchitis, COPD, and heart disease.   Unfortunately, heart disease continues to increase, but there is hope that with more treatment and studies, those rates will one day go down.

Trouble sleeping?  Hey, who doesn’t these days, but some of us struggle more with it than others to a point where it affects our day-to-day tasks and can take a toll on one’s mental and physical health.  Polysomnographic Technicians/Technologists help doctors diagnose sleep disorders by monitoring patients during sleep studies.  Their profession helps determine what may be troubling our sleep and can get one back on track to a good night’s rest!

Traveling Cardiopulmonary careers have anything from Respiratory Therapists to Techs.  Check all the modalities that Uniti Med staffs:

  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

How to find travel nurse housing

Tips for Finding Housing on a Travel Assignment

A few things to consider as you look for housing suited for a travel nurse.

  • Know your lifestyle preferences, dealbreakers, and companions
  • While considering options, keep in mind the quality of the housing, any amenities or necessities included in the rental, proximity to the facility, and flexibility of the lessor
  • Consider a variety of options: room rentals, house sharing, hotels/extended stays, RVs, campgrounds, apartment sublets
  • Travel as light as possible
  • Start researching early, ideally during the submittal process

Housing Rentals by Owner

Housing rentals operated by the owner can be a great way to find affordable housing in desirable areas.

Long Term Stay Hotels

For a professional, reliable experience, a long term stay hotel can be a great solution for traveling nurses.

RVs & Camping

Depending on where your contract is taking you (and what time of year), there are RV and Camping opportunities available to our more outdoorsy and adventurous travelers.

Rent A Room

If you’re comfortable sharing your space with new people, renting a room is a great way for a travel nurse to save money on housing and can be a great way to find companionship in your new city.

Facebook as a Housing Resource

Your network of friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances on Facebook can be a useful resource while searching for housing. Crowd source ideas and leads by posting directly to your feed. There are numerous groups on Facebook dedicated to “In Search of” (ISO) posts by travelers and available housing posts by lessors. Here are some places to start:

  • Travel Nursing & Healthcare Traveler Housing Resources
  • Travel Nurse Housing: The Gypsy Nurse
  • Gypsy Soul Travel Nurse Housing Options
  • Housing the Country, One Hospital at a Time!
  • Traveling Nurses Housing
  • Travel Nursing: Places/Rooms For Rent

Utilize Local Experts

There are a number of local housing experts you can reach out to as you search for housing as a travel nurse.

  • Realty companies often have departments dedicated to rental housing, and larger corporations may have rental companies under their umbrella. Call into local realty and rental companies to inquire about their short-term options.
  • During the submission process, a hiring manager from the facility may call you to conduct a phone interview. This can be a great opportunity to assess the difficulty and abundance of housing options in the area. The facility is likely to have used travelers before and can provide leads, advice, and insight into the process specific to their area.

The most important thing is to not let the search for housing become overwhelming. If your assignment’s start date is approaching and you’ve yet to acquire housing, you can always start out by booking 1-2 weeks at an affordable hotel. Once you are on-site at your new location, it will be much easier to secure housing for the remainder of your contract.

Good luck in your search for housing. And remember, as a Uniti Med traveler your recruiter may have additional resources for you! Contact us for assistance!

Celebrating Physical Therapists in October

Celebrating Physical Therapists in October

October is National Physical Therapy Month!

During the month of October, there are many healthcare-related observances. Breast Cancer Awareness is usually the first thing that comes to mind for many, but October also celebrates Emergency Room nurses, Respiratory Care, and of course, Physical Therapists. Physical Therapy is celebrated all October long, and it’s a time where we can thank the healthcare professionals for the incredible work they do.

Our Allied division staffs several PTs and PTAs, so this month we wanted to reach out to a few of them to learn about their journey as therapists and as travelers.

PTBlog

Meet Brian and Meghan! This traveling duo has been on the road in their RV for the past 7 months. They both have a deep love for their patients and the work they do. Their recruiter, Mary Springer, helped us get connected with them to dive deeper into their profession and their travel careers.

Why did you get started in this profession?

Brian and Meghan are both athletes. In high school, Meghan hurt herself playing volleyball and required physical therapy to heal. She said, “My PT gave me my senior year of volleyball back and ever since I knew I wanted to become a PT myself.” As for Brian, he has always wanted to be able to help people return to the sport they love.

What is the best part of being a physical therapist?

For this answer, Brian and Meghan both agreed that helping their patients reach their physical goals is what makes their job so rewarding.

“The best part of being a physical therapist is seeing patients reach their goals and the impact we have on that aspect of their lives as PTs.” – Brian

Brian and Meghan were both working full-time as therapists for about 2 years before making the decision to travel. Everyone has a “why”, so what was theirs?

Why did you decide to start traveling?

Both Brian and Meghan wanted to see all the country had to offer while working. The financial perks of traveling were pretty enticing as well!

What’s the best part of traveling?

The best part of traveling for many healthcare professionals is the ability to go all of the places they never had before. Brian personally loves trying new foods, meeting new people, and immersing himself into new cultures. Meghan has loved the ability to see the country while doing what she loves.

“We’ve been able to see more of the country in the past 6 months than we ever have working full time.” – Meghan

For some, the idea of making the switch to a travel career can be scary and overwhelming. It helps to hear first hand from a traveler what their experience has been like and if they’d recommend it to someone else.

Would you recommend travel to someone who is on the fence about it and why?

Both Brian and Meghan responded with a resounding “Yes!” Here are their reasons why:

“Traveling has been one of the best decisions we have ever made together. You get to meet new people and learn new techniques from PTs all over the country. You get to see new places every 3 months and you get a pretty significant pay increase while doing it. It’s the best!” – Meghan

“Traveling opened my mind to different ways of therapy practice and forced me out of my comfort zone. Seeing different parts of the world while getting paid to do so makes it an easy decision for me.” – Brian

Thanks, Brian and Meghan for sharing your journey with us! We wish all of our Physical Therapists a Happy Physical Therapy Month!
